Orthodontics in Children and Adults

Dr. Winborn specializes in orthodontics for both adults and children. For children, orthodontics is important for bringing the teeth, lips, and face into proportion. It helps them bite and chew properly, and also have clearer speech. In many cases, it can be easier to correct orthodontic issues in children before they become set in stone as an adult. But if you are an adult and are now deciding to invest in braces or Invisalign, don't worry! Orthodontics has come a long way in the past decade and we can promptly take care of any orthodontic issue you may have!

Clear Aligners

Like braces, Invisalign is designed to move your teeth a little bit at a time. The difference is that you will have a series of clear aligners compared to one set of metal braces. After taking digital impressions of your teeth, Dr. Winborn will order a series of plastic aligners that change slightly and you will wear them for around 2 weeks each. We recommend that you wear your aligners 22 hours a day, only taking them out to eat and drink liquids other than water.

Traditional Braces

Metal braces apply steady, gentle pressure to gradually move your teeth into the correct position. We place the metal brackets on your teeth with an adhesive. The archwire connects the brackets and works by applying the pressure needed to move the teeth into the new positions. Braces can correct a variety of problems including crooked teeth, crowding, a misaligned bite, and orthodontic issues that interfere with eating and speaking. Metal braces must be tightened periodically to keep sufficient pressure on your teeth. The amount of time metal braces need to be worn varies widely, depending on the amount of correction needed and the specific problems we are fixing.
