Invisalign Orthodontics in Fort Smith, AR
Are you wanting to straighten your smile discretely and in a way that doesn't involve braces? Invisalign clear aligners are more comfortable and simpler than conventional braces.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a series of clear plastic aligners molded to fit your teeth in a way that applies constant but gentle pressure, which causes your teeth to straighten. They are a great alternative to conventional metal braces if you are someone who has minor to moderate alignment issues.
“We love Dr. Winborn’s office, the staff are always friendly and add a personal touch by not only remembering your name but asking about you and your family. Our daughter had braces done at the office and we are extremely pleased with the results. They pay close attention to the smallest detail and provide the best service. Best dentist office in the River Valley!”

How do clear aligners straighten your teeth?
Like braces, Invisalign is designed to move your teeth a little bit at a time. The difference is that you will have a series of clear aligners compared to one set of metal braces. After taking digital impressions of your teeth, Dr. Winborn will order a series of plastic aligners that change slightly and you will wear them for around 2 weeks each. We recommend that you wear your aligners 22 hours a day, only taking them out to eat and drink liquids other than water.
How to care for your clear aligners
Maintaining good dental hygiene between dental checkups is the first step to keeping your teeth and aligners clean. But along with brushing and flossing, you should:
Clean your aligner trays each time you brush and floss
The best way to clean your aligners is by using the Invisalign Cleaning System. If you don't have that, denture cleaner is a great way to clean your Invisalign without damaging it. Do not use hot or cold water since they are made of plastic. Always clean with lukewarm water. Extreme temperatures can warp the shape and render them useless.
Rinse your mouth after eating
Don't let food particles or bacteria get in between your teeth and your aligners. Remove your Invisalign before eating and rinse your mouth out with lukewarm water before putting your aligners back in!
Know when to remove your aligner
Any drinks that are sugary or acidic, like soda, coffee, or alcohol, will sit on your teeth until you remove your Invisalign. This can cause tooth discoloration and cavities, but it can also discolor the Invisalign if done often enough. If you are going to drink anything other than water, brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in place!
Pros and Cons of Invisalign and Clear Aligners
Invisalign clear aligners are becoming more popular than conventional braces, and for good reason. Regardless, it's a good idea to weigh your options when choosing between Invisalign and metal braces. Each person is different!
Pros:
Invisible
Invisalign aligners are virtually undetectable when wearing them since they are completely clear.
Removable
Because they are removable, you can eat anything you like and clean them easily.
Effective
Invisalign is often quicker than traditional braces. With proper use, you could have a brand new smile in as little as six months!
Affordable
Invisalign is comparable in price to traditional metal braces.
Cons:
Easily Lost
Since the aligners can be removed, they can be lost or misplaced.
Staining
Clear aligners can become stained by certain foods and drinks if you don't properly wash out your mouth after meals and wash the aligners daily.
Only for Mild to Moderate Cases
Invisalign is effective for most misalignment cases, but for more severe cases, they may not be enough. That is why talking with your dentist is always the first step in developing a treatment plan to straighten your teeth.
